Common Questions About Flea & Tick Control

Where do fleas & ticks live?

Fleas and ticks both like to hide in shady, damp areas: under trees, shrubs, and leaf piles. Ticks are also known to hang out in tall grasses and shrubs, waiting for their next meal and a free ride.

If you live near a heavily wooded area, or if you have a lot of trees and shrubs on your property, your yard is more likely to become infested with fleas and ticks.

What can I do to prevent ticks & fleas?

Ticks and fleas like overgrown areas, shrubs, and long grasses. We recommend setting your mower height to 3 inches and not allowing the grass to grow taller than 4 inches whenever possible. Keep the shrubs and bushes near your house pruned and trimmed. Eliminate the places they like to hide such as standing water, tall grasses and piles of organic matter.

You want to prevent things that attract fleas, ticks, and the creatures that carry them, such as squirrels, mice, rats, and birds. Attractants include brush, plants, leaf piles, wood piles, birdfeeders, and bird baths.

Check your pets thoroughly when they come in from their walks, but also check yourself if you are in areas that fleas and ticks are prevalent.
